Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clashed with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Saturday, April 18. CSK lost the encounter by 10 runs after failing to chase a 195-run target.
During the chase, CSK’s batter Ayush Mhatre sustained a hamstring injury. The incident occurred in the fifth over of the second innings, when Ayush pulled his hamstring while taking a couple of runs.
He was seen in pain but after a brief discussion with the team physio, he continued his batting. However, he could not stay for long as he was dismissed in the fifth over, scoring 30 runs off 13 deliveries. While leaving the field, he was seen limping.

According to a report by Express Sports. Mhatre is likely to be ruled out for three weeks from IPL 2026 due to his injury. CSK are already short of MS Dhoni and Mhatre’s ouster will be another significant blow to their batting unit.
In the post-match press conference, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey had mentioned that Ayush suffered a serious injury and would miss a few games.
“Ayush Mhatre has a hamstring tear. I don’t know how bad it is, we will have a scan, but it looks really bad unfortunately. It could be a big loss for us, because he has been in nice touch for us. He is an exciting young talent,” he had said.
“He’s an exciting young talent, but it does give someone else an opportunity, which is also exciting. We have some very good players who haven’t had a chance yet. While we’re disappointed to lose Ayush, for however long it may be, it opens the door for another player to step in,” he added.
Mhatre showed a fabulous form in IPL 2026. He is the highest run-scorer for CSK with 201 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 177.87. He also hammered half-centuries against Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings.
Meanwhile, CSK lost their clash against SRH by 10 runs, facing their fourth defeat in the tournament across six games. None of the batters could score a fifty in the 195-run chase, as CSK ended with 184/8 in 20 overs.
