Babar Azam is averaging only 21 in test cricket since 2023.
Star Pakistan cricketer Babar Azam is in the worst phase of his professional career. A fresh season of test cricket has started on a disastrous note for Babar as he was dismissed for a two-ball duck in the first test against Bangladesh.
Pakistan kicked off their season, which includes seven home tests and two away tests, with the first test against Bangladesh on Wednesday in Rawalpindi.
On a green pitch that was specifically prepared for Pakistanâs four-man pace attack, it was Bangladeshi seamers Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam who dominated the first hour as they had the hosts reeling at 16/3 after Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Liton Das takes a mind-blowing catch of Babar Azam, who gets out for a duck
Babar came in early into Pakistanâs innings after the side lost opener Abdullah Shafique for two runs and captain Shan Masood for six runs inside seven overs.
An over later, Babar was back in the dressing room, too, as he was caught spectacularly by Liton Das, the Bangladeshi wicket-keeper, Shorifulâs bowling.
Shoriful bowled a back-of-length delivery that pitched on the leg-stump line and rose to Babarâs hips. The right-hander tried to glance it on the leg side but couldnât hit it well. The ball took an edge and flew behind. Das put in a full-stretched dive to grab the ball with only his left hand. He went down on the ground but managed to not lose the ball.
Bangladeshi players celebrated wildly as the umpire raised his finger to confirm Babarâs dismissal. The batter put his head down and walked off to the dressing room.
