Top 5 Bangladesh bowlers with most wickets in T20I cricket

Only two Bangladesh bowlers have picked over 100 wickets in T20I cricket.
The Bangladesh cricket team made their T20I debut in November 2006. Their progress in the shortest format has been the slowest compared to the other two formats. That is why they have failed to win a single Asia Cup title and failed to reach the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup.
The strength of Bangladesh has been their bowling, with which they have registered a few victories over the higher-ranked nations.
They have had a variety of bowlers who have done well in T20Is. In this article, we will look at Bangladesh’s top five highest wicket-takers in the shortest international format.
Here are Bangladesh’s top five highest wicket-takers in T20I cricket:
5. Abdur Razzak – 44 wickets
With 44 scalps in 34 T20Is, former left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak has the fifth-most wickets in T20Is for Bangladesh. He featured in T20Is from 2006 to 2014, but never cemented a place in the first-choice XI.
Razzak’s best of 4/16 came against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2008, but still, they lost the match by 12 runs (DL method).
4. Shoriful Islam – 46 wickets
Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam has the fourth-most wickets for Bangladesh in T20Is. He has snapped 46 wickets in 41 T20Is at an economy of 8.14.
Shoriful’s best bowling figures in T20Is are 3/21, which he took against the UAE in Dubai in 2022 while defending 158. Bangladesh won the match by only seven runs.
3. Taskin Ahmed – 72 wickets
Seamer Taskin Ahmed, who made his T20I debut in 2014, has the third-most wickets for his country in this format. Ahmed, known for his swing and high-pace bowling, has snared 72 wickets in 67 T20Is at an impressive economy of 7.43.
He has two four-wicket hauls. His best of 4/16 came against Ireland in Chattogram in 2023. He took these figures in only two overs as the hosts won by 22 runs (DLS method).
2. Mustafizur Rahman – 128 wickets
Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has taken the second-most number of wickets for his country in T20Is. In 103 T20Is, Rahman has picked up 128 wickets with three four-fors and two five-fors.
Mustafizur, who is known for his slower ball variations, especially his cutters, registered his best bowling figures in T20Is of 6/10 against the USA in Houston in 2024. His bowling helped Bangladesh restrict USA to only 104, which they chased down comfortably.
1. Shakib Al Hasan – 149 wickets
With 149 wickets, Shakib Al Hasan has picked up the most wickets for Bangladesh in T20Is. Shakib retired from T20Is in 2024, ending an 18-year-long career.
He finished with 149 T20I wickets in 129 matches while conceding at an economy of only 6.81. He bagged two five-wicket hauls in his T20I career, his best of 5/20 coming against West Indies in Dhaka in 2018.
