The same Bangladesh squad will also play three T20Is against Netherlands.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selectors, on Friday, August 22, 2025, announced 16-man Bangladesh squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. The eight-team continental tournament will be played from September 09 to 28 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Litton Das will continue to lead the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the upcoming edition of the continental tournament in their quest for a maiden Asia Cup title.
Notably, Bangladesh have never won the Asia Cup, despite making their debut in 1986. They achieved their second victory in the Asia Cup in 2008 after winning their first match in 2004. They made it to the finals in 2012, 2016, and 2018, which were their greatest years.
They did, however, lose to India in the 2016 final and to Pakistan in the 2012 final. They lost the summit match against the Men in Blue in the 2018 Asia Cup, which was their second consecutive loss.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is left out; Nurul Hasan makes a comeback in the Bangladesh squad.
Meanwhile, the BCB selectors have recalled wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan and all-rounder Saif Hassan for Asia Cup 2025. However, ace all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was part of the Bangladesh squad that defeated Pakistan in T20Is last month, was left out, along with Mohammad Naim.
In 2022, Nurul played his last T20I in the World Cup in Australia, scoring just 41 runs in five innings. In the 2024–25 season, he improved his form, scoring 513 runs at a strike rate of 132.90 in the Global Super League, National Cricket League, and Bangladesh Premier League.
The other people on the standby list are Hasan Mahmud, Tanvir Islam, and Soumya Sarkar.
The same 16-member squad will play in the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands starting on August 30.
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong have all been assigned to Group B. On September 11, they will play Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi to kick off their competition. On September 13, they will play Afghanistan at the same ground for their last group match.
