Barinder Sran made his India debut in 2016 and played eight international matches.

Punjab seamer Barinder Sran has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket. The 31-year-old confirmed this news through a post on Instagram on August 29.

The left-arm seamer made his India debut in both ODI and T20I formats in 2016. He was handed his ODI cap by former skipper MS Dhoni in Perth. He played a total of eight matches – all in 2016 – for India, picking up 13 wickets overall, with a best of 4/10 in a T20I against Zimbabwe.

Sran played domestic cricket for Punjab and Chandigarh. He featured in 18 first-class games, snapping 47 wickets. He snared 45 wickets each in List-A and T20 cricket at ordinary averages of 32 and 30, respectively. His last domestic match was in 2021.

Cricket has gifted me innumerable and incredible experiences: Barinder Sran

Sran wrote on his Instagram, “As I officially hang up my cricket boots, I look back at my journey with a heart full of gratitude. Cricket has gifted me innumerable and incredible experiences. Fast bowling soon became my lucky charm and opened doors to represent prestigious IPL franchises, ultimately culminating in the highest honor of representing India in 2016.

“Even though my international career was brief, the memories created will be forever cherished. I am eternally grateful to the almighty for getting me the right coaches and management, who have supported me throughout my journey.”

Barinder Sran was part of four Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises from 2015 to 2019: Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. He was part of Mumbai’s title-winning squad in 2019. He played 24 IPL games and picked up 18 scalps.

Having retired from international and domestic cricket, including the IPL, Sran is now eligible to get gigs in overseas franchise leagues.
