Mohammed Shami has been out of action after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been out of cricketing action since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Shami was the leading wicket-taker in the mega event and took 24 wickets in 7 matches. The 33-year-old missed the opportunity to play against Pakistan in the World Cup, but his just one statement has created a buzz on social media.

Mohammed Shami has expressed in a chat with News18 that bashing Pakistan is his blood. During an event, a journalist asked Shami about his magnificent performance against Pakistan, “Sabse Jyada to aap Pakistan ko dhote hain? (You bash Pakistan the most)” Shami replied to this question which left everyone in splits and also earned a huge applause. Shami said, “Wo to mere Khoon me hai (It is is my blood).”

Shami’s impactful debut against Pakistan

Right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami made his international debut against Pakistan in an ODI game played at Feroz Shah Kotla (now Arun Jaitley Stadium) in Delhi in 2013. Shami bowled a magnificent spell in his opening game where he bowled four maidens in his 9-over spell and picked up one wicket. In three ODI games played against Pakistan, Shami has picked five wickets and bowled at an economy rate of 3.82.

During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza accused Indian bowlers of tampering with the ball during the tournament. He also claimed that ICC was providing a different ball to Indian bowlers. Shami lashed out at Hasan Raza and said that they (Pakistanis) have made cricket a joke. Shami said, “They have made cricket a joke because we don’t enjoy each other’s success. Jalan to puri dikhti hai (Jealousy is visible).”

Mohammed Shami, who has been out of action since the World Cup, went London for treatment on his ankle and is back to home now. He is most likely to return in action during the IPL 2024 for Gujarat Titans. Shami is Gujarat Titans’ leading wicket-taker and has played a key role in Titans’ campaign in previous two seasons. If he does well in the IPL, he might get a chance to represent India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
