Many star players will play in the IND vs AFG ODI series.

The three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan begins on June 13 in Dharamshala. Men in Blue return to the 50-over format after months of T20 cricket.

India will begin their preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 from this series. Three new additions, namely Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey, and the IPL sensation Prince Yadav, received their maiden ODI call-ups ahead of this series.

On the other hand, India have gone with the same batting group, including Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. Ishan Kishan has returned to the ODI side.

While Virat Kohli was set to be in action for the series, he suffered a hamstring injury in the IPL final and has been ruled out. Yashasvi Jaiswal has replaced him in the squad. Another injury concern is Hardik Pandya, who sustained a quadriceps injury and will miss the series.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan are led by Hasmatullah Shahidi. They have a fairly experienced line-up with Rahmat Shah, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Asmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Nabi and the skipper himself.

On that note, let’s take a look at the batsmen who can score the most runs in this series.

Batsmen who can score the most runs in IND vs AFG ODI series:

3. Ibrahim Zadran

Ibrahim Zadran is ranked third in the ODI batting rankings. He has played 39 ODIs for Afghanistan, scoring more than 1800 runs at an average of 51. He played a crucial innings of 129 against Australia at Wankhede in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Zadran has been Afghanistan’s best batsman in this format. His last two ODI innings were against Bangladesh, in which he scored 95 runs in both innings. If he gets going, it will be tough for India to stop him, especially given the inexperience in the Indian bowling line-up.

2. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is the vice-captain of India in ODIs. In 76 ODI matches, he has scored close to 3000 runs for India. He resolved the issue regarding India’s No. 4 position. He scored a total of 530 runs with an average of 66.25 in the ICC CWC 2023, including three half-centuries and two centuries, one of which came in the semi-final.

Iyer had a phenomenal IPL 2026 season, scoring almost 500 runs in 14 matches, with five half-centuries and one century. He bailed out the team in crucial situations and averaged above 55 in the tournament. The vice-captain’s recent form in this series could pose a threat to the opposition team.

Although he had an underwhelming outing against New Zealand recently, Iyer scored plenty of runs in the England series and the Champions Trophy in early 2025.

1. Shubman Gill

Indian men’s ODI team captain Shubman Gill has been piling runs for fun in the past couple of months. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2026 with 732 runs in 16 matches, with a strike rate above 163. His century in the Qualifier 2 guaranteed the Gujarat Titans a spot in the final.

Gill is ranked fifth in the ICC ODI batsmen rankings. In 61 innings, he has scored more than 2,900 runs for India with an average of 55.72. The 26-year-old was handed the captaincy in 2025, replacing Rohit Sharma. As a captain, Gill is yet to win an ODI series.

He had a below-par outing in Australia, after which he missed the series against South Africa. He came back in January against New Zealand and scored back-to-back fifties; however, the team failed to win the series. Gill would look to translate his current form in this series and win his first ODI series as a skipper.
