Top 3 batsmen fastest to reach 14000 runs in ODI cricket

Only three batters have scored over 14000 runs in ODI cricket so far.
With a glut of T20 cricket and the excitement of the World Test Championship (WTC), ODI cricket often gets overlooked and under-discussed these days. It becomes a major talking point only when a World Cup is around the corner, though the ODI World Cup still remains a much more cherished entity for most players than the T20 World Cup and the WTC crown.
There have been great ODI batters and there have been the GOATs. The separation between these two categories could be made by the number of batters who have amassed more than 14000 runs in ODI cricket.
The list is very, very small because the number of batters with over 14000 runs in ODI cricket is only three so far. In this article, we look at who reached this landmark quicker.
Here are the top three batsmen fastest to 14000 runs in ODI cricket:
3. Kumar Sangakkara – 378 innings
Legendary Sri Lankan left-hander Kumar Sangakkara is the first Sri Lankan and the second batsman to cross the 14000-run milestone in ODI cricket. Sangakkara reached there in his 378th ODI innings, which came during the 2015 World Cup.
Sangakkara played 404 ODIs and amassed 14234 runs at an average of 41.98. He hit 25 hundreds and 93 half-centuries in his ODI career from 2000 to 2015.
2. Sachin Tendulkar – 350 innings
Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer in ODI cricket. He ended his iconic ODI career with 18426 runs in 463 matches, averaging 44. Tendulkar notched up 49 ODI centuries.
Tendulkar, who made his ODI debut in 1989, crossed the 14000-run mark in his 350th ODI innings which came in 2006 against Pakistan in Peshawar. Tendulkar was the first batsman to touch this figure.
1. Virat Kohli – 287 innings
Hailed as the arguably the greatest ODI batsman of all time, Virat Kohli is the fastest to 14000 ODI runs, getting to his mark in his 287th ODI knock, which is 63 innings quicker than Tendulkar.
Kohli attained this milestone against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match.
He is the third-leading ODI run-scorer, and averages 57 – far better than Sangakkara and Tendulkar’s averages – with 50 ODI centuries to his name, the most by any batsman.
