Top 5 best bowling figures by Bangladesh bowlers against India in test cricket
Five Bangladesh bowlers have taken a five-wicket haul against India in test matches.
The Bangladesh cricket team have never managed to beat the Indian cricket team in test cricket. Until the start of their test series in September 2024, the two teams had met in 13 test matches, out of which India won 11 games and two tests were drawn.
Despite having some great names in Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Ashraful, Bangladesh have failed to record a single test match win over India. One of the reasons for their lack of success against India is their bowlers’ inability to bowl India out cheaply.
So far, only five Bangladeshi bowlers have managed to take a five-wicket haul against India in tests. In this article, we will look at the top five bowling performances by Bangladesh bowlers against their neighbours.
Top 5 best bowling figures by Bangladesh bowlers against India in test cricket:
5. Hasan Mahmud – 5/83, Chennai, 2024
The latest entry on this list of pacer Hasan Mahmud, who rocked the Indian top and middle-order in the Chennai test in 2024. He rattled India with the new ball by dismissing Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohl in his first spell on day 1. After lunch, he got rid of Rishabh Pant.
However, India chipped away through a century from Ravi Ashwin and a half-century from Ravindra Jadeja. Mahmud completed his five-for on the morning of day 2 with Jasprit Bumrah’s wicket.
4. Shahadat Hossain – 5/71, Chattogram, 2010
Right-arm pacer Shahadat Hossain bowled impressively in India’s first innings in the IND vs BAN test in Chattogram in 2010. He returned with figures of 5/71, his wickets including Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid.
However, centuries from Sachin Tendulkar in the first innings and from Gambhir in the second innings reulted in India winning the test by 113 runs.
3. Mehidy Hasan Miraz – 5/63, Mirpur, 2022
India and Bangladesh played a thrilling encounter in Mirpur in 2022, which the visitors won by only three wickets, courtesy of R Ashwin’s all-round efforts.
Bangladesh were alive in the game and fighting when off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz troubled the Indian batters with a five-wicket haul while defending a target of just 145 runs. In his five-for, Miraz dismissed Pujara, Gill, Kohli, Pant and Axar and had India reeling at 74/7. But, his effort went in vain as Iyer and Ashwin took India home.
2. Shakib Al Hasan – 5/62, Chattogram, 2010
Shakib Al Hasan, who is his country’s leading wicket-taker against India in tests, took 5/62 in the Chattogram test in 2010. Shakib bowled the most overs in India’s first innings and returned with a five-for.
But, his bowling efforts didn’t materialise into a win due to India’s superior strength. The visitors clinched a win by over 100 runs.
1. Naimur Rahman – 6/132, Dhaka, 2000
Bangladesh made their test debut in 2000 against India in Dhaka. They lost their debut test match by nine wickets as Sunil Joshi took eight wickets and scored 92 runs.
