BBL 15 Points Table, Most Runs & Wickets after match 5, HUR vs STA

Melbourne Stars beat Hobart Hurricanes in the fifth game of the BBL 15 on Thursday.

The defending champion Hobart Hurricanes suffered their first defeat of the Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 15). They faced the Melbourne Stars in the fifth game at MCG. The Hurricanes came into this game on the back of a win over the Sydney Thunder, but they couldn’t replicate the success.

It was because of a below-par batting performance. Batting first, the Hurricanes lost their top three batters within the power play. Thanks to Ben McDermott, who scored a 69 off 52, and Tim David’s 31 off 31, which took them over the 150-run mark. They finished at 158/9, with only two batters scoring in double figures.

Peter Siddle bowled superbly for his 3/30. It was never going to be a tough target, and the Stars batted cautiously at the start.

Later, an unbeaten third-wicket stand between Campbell Kellaway (41 off 27) and captain Marcus Stoinis (62* off 31) of 101 runs took the Stars over the line. They recorded an 8-wicket win with four overs to spare and earned their first points on the board.
