The 13th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL 2023-24) kicked-off on December 7.

The 13th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL 2023-24) saw its first game kick off on December 7. This tournament will see eight teams fighting for the title. The five-time champions Perth Scorchers will defend their title and have a golden chance to make a hat-trick in the Big Bash League history.

But this will not be easy, as all the other teams have big names. Here we will talk about the eight captains of the teams who will be leading their respective franchises in BBL 2023-24. There will be 44 matches in the new season, and every team will play 10 group games, and the top four will make it to the finals.

List of Captains of all 8 teams participating in the BBL 2023-24:

1. Adelaide Strikers :

Travis Head will be leading Adelaide Strikers in BBL 2023-24. The Southpaw is in the form of his life and recently won the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 for Australia. He has led Strikers in 19 games and won 15 of them. Head has scored 1394 runs for the franchise and is a consistent player. However, he is also part of the upcoming test series against Pakistan. Hence, it will be Matthew Short who might replace him as captain.

2. Brisbane Heat :

Veteran Australian opener Usman Khawaja is the captain of Brisbane Heat. He will be captaining the franchise in a few early games before going for the test series. He led in eight games last season and won six of them. Khawaja will be seen leading the team again in the coming season.

Australian pacer Nathan Ellis is the one who will be leading Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL in 2023–24. He will have a big job to do, as the franchise hasn’t won a single title in 11 seasons so far. Hurricanes finished in 6th place in the last season, hence, Ellis will have a big job to do.

4. Melbourne Renegades :

The winners of BBL 8, Melbourne Renegades, will be led by Nic Maddinson, who has led the team on and off since last season. Under his captaincy, the franchise has played nine games and only won two so far. Renegades finished third last season, but Maddinson will be eyeing taking the team to their second title.

5. Melbourne Stars :

Under Maxwell, Stars have played 33 games (most for the franchise) and won 22 of them. Stars have not won the title, but under him, they finished runners-up in consecutive BBL 8 and 9, respectively.

6. Perth Scorchers :

Ashton Turner captained Perth Scorchers to two consecutive titles, and he will be back leading the side for a record hat-trick. Overall, Scorchers have won five titles and will be looking to add yet another to their kitty. Turner has been the captain since 2020 and has led the team in 55 matches, winning 37 of them.

7. Sydney Sixers :

Moises Henriques will be back at his duty one more time, and he will be leading the three-time champions franchise, Sydney Sixers. Henriques has led Sixers for 57 matches, which is just one less than Aaron Finch’s record as a BBL captain. He will be breaking that this season, for sure. Sixers finished in the top four last season, but they will look for a better one this time around.

8. Sydney Thunder :

The winners of the fifth edition of the league, Sydney Thunder, will see Jason Sangha as their new captain. He took the captaincy from Khawaja, and it will be the first time that he will be leading a BBL team. Thunder were eliminated from the knockouts last season, but they will feel that Sangha can lead them to their second title.
