The 22nd match of the BBL 2023-24 between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers got abandoned due to rain.

In what was supposed to be an exciting double-header day in Big Bash League 2023-24 on the first day of the new year, rain played spoilsport. The first clash featured Sydney Thunder against Hobart Hurricanes in the 21st Match at Hobart. Sydney Thunder set a target of 151 runs, posting a total of 150/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Chris Green’s unbeaten 33 off 17 balls powered their innings. In response, Hobart Hurricanes chased down the target with 11 balls to spare, securing a victory by seven wickets. The standout performer was Chris Jordan, earning the Player of the Match award for his impactful bowling figures of 2/20.

However, the second match of the day, which saw Brisbane Heat taking on Sydney Sixers in the 22nd match of the tournament, faced an unfortunate twist. Due to persistent rain, the match was washed out without a toss, leaving players and fans disappointed.

After the 21st match of the tournament, Hobart Hurricanes now are placed at 5th position with 2 wins and 4 points to their name. They desperately needed this win to go forward in the tournament. Sydney Thunder are having a terrible tournament, they are at the bottom of the table with one win in 6 games and 3 points. After rain played spoilsport in the second game of the day between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers, resulting the game being abandoned and both teams share one point each. Heat are at top of the table with 4 wins and 10 points in 6 games, while Sixers are at second spot with 3 wins and 8 points in 6 games.

Sydney Thunder top-order batter Cameron Bancroft scored 21 runs in the match and now finds himself as the highest run-scorer with 202 runs. Mathew Short of Adelaide Strikers is at second position with 201 runs. His team-mate Chris Lynn is just below him with 190 runs. Perth Scorchers’ Aaron Hardie is 4th with 182 runs. Melbrourne Renegades’ Jake Fraser-Mcgurk is 5th with 175 runs.
