BBL introduces new technology as Electra Stumps to add new colours into the T20 cricket.

The T20 leagues around the world are something that evolve with time and the shortest format is an extra spice they get to add more flavours into the game. The Big Bash League has introduced new ‘Electra Stumps’ after ‘Zing Bails’ to add some new colours into the cricket’s shortest format of the game. The ‘Zing Bails’ were used widely in cricket after they were introduced in the Big Bash League first.

The ‘Electra Stumps’ were used first in the Women’s Big Bash League at the beginning of this home summer in Australia and now the technology is set to make its debut in the ongoing Big Bash League season. The ‘Electra Stumps’ made its debut during Big Bash League 2023-24’s 11th league game between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers at Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday. This feature will add an extra element into the game to key moments.

Michael Vaughan and Mark Waugh explains the Electra stumps

Former cricketers Michael Vaughan and Mark Waugh explained the functioning of the ‘Electra Stumps’ technology before the Adelaide and Sydney game in Sydney. The Electra Stumps will exhibit five different light shows during the important elements of the game including a wicket, boundary, six, no-ball, and changing the ends between overs.

The stumps will turn red and then ignite as fire in colour when a batter is dismissed clean bowled. When a batter hits four, the stumps will shift in colours and change every second to celebrate the boundary. At a maximum, the stumps will show colours scrolling. The ‘Electra Stumps’ will have scrolling red and white lights when a bowler delivers a no-ball while changing the ends will see purple and blue scrolling.

The Zing Bails were a useful addition to the game as they helped the umpires make decisions based on the lights in a run-out, stumping, or a close call of bowling. Zing Bails were used in the Big Bash League first and then it was used widely in the international cricket. Sydney Sixers defeated Adelaide Strikers by one run in the 11th match of the ongoing season.
