Jonathan Moya found the net only once for the Nizams.
Jonathan Moya becomes the latest foreign player to leave Hyderabad FC in the middle of the 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League. The striker leaves the struggling Nizams to join Costa Rican club Liga Deportiva Alajuelense.
Jonathan Moya joined Hyderabad FC ahead of the 2023-24 season as one of the several new foreign faces at the club. He played 405 minutes of football for the 2021-22 ISL Trophy winners across seven appearances in the league. His sole goal for Hyderabad FC came against Punjab FC in a 1-1 draw when the striker scored late in the game to salvage a point for his side.
Foreigners jumping ship
Jonathan Moya’s departure may come as a surprise to Hyderabad FC fans who are largely unaware of the turmoil at the club behind the scenes. He joins former players Felipe Amorim and Oswaldo Alanis in jumping the ship midway in the 2023-24 season. If this trend continues, more foreign players and key domestic players can be seen leaving the club in future.

Ongoing financial troubles are paralysing Hyderabad FC’s results on the pitch. The club is struggling to replicate their performances from the last two seasons following the departure of Manolo Marquez. They are yet to register a win in the 2023-24 ISL season, having lost seven and drawn four of their 11 matches.
Hyderabad FC are already serving a transfer ban imposed by the world governing body for football, FIFA, and are not allowed to register new players. An uncertain future is looming large at the club and it remains to be seen how the club manages to face the upcoming challenges. The January winter transfer window will be crucial for Hyderabad FC to reinforce their ever-thinning squad.
