The duo became the first Indians to win Asian Games gold.
Recently, Forbes India highlighted the rising stars of Indian badminton, Satwik-Chirag, on their official Instagram account. The Asian Games gold medalists were featured on the cover of Forbes India magazine, marking a significant milestone in their careers.
The post showcased a striking image of the duo and included the caption, “The dynamic duo of Indian badminton, @chiragshetty and @satwik_rankireddy, made their mark in 2023. They dazzled at the Super 1000 tournament, clinched a doubles gold at the Asian Games, and adorned the cover of our Showstoppers issue.
In a year marked by the struggles of many established Indian badminton players in major tournaments, the young duo of Satwik and Chirag emerged as the torchbearers of India’s global prestige in the sport.
Their crowning achievement this year was winning the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023, a first for India in this prestigious event. They also triumphed at the Badminton Asian Championships in Dubai, securing another gold medal and becoming the first doubles pair to win a Super 1000 tournament at the Indonesia Open.
Their victories extended to the Korea Open and Swiss Open as well. Following their stellar performance at the Asian Games, they briefly held the world no. 1 ranking, before slipping to world no. 5 after an early departure from the French Open.
In recognition of their extraordinary accomplishment, Satwik and Chirag are slated to receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in January 2024. Currently ranked no. 2 in the BWF men’s doubles, the duo is poised to continue their exceptional performance in the forthcoming seasons, aiming to earn more accolades for themselves and their country.
