Bopanna-Ebden had a terrific 2023 and will want to continue that momentum this year.

Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden enjoyed a good run in the 2023 season, winning the Indian Wells Masters and an ATP 250 event at Doha.  The pair also reached the finals and semifinals at other events, namely, ATP Masters 1000 Madrid (Finals), Wimbledon (semifinals), US Open (Finals), ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai (Finals), ATP Masters 1000 Paris (Finals), and Nitto ATP Finals (Semifinals).

As a team, James Duckworth and Marc Polmans reached the quarterfinals at the 2020 Australian Open – their best performance to date. Duckworth’s injury-prone career that led to a handful of surgeries and varying doubles partners, including Polmans, his partner for the 2020, 2021 and 2022 Australian Open, haven’t helped the team’s fortunes.

Rohan Bopanna/Matt Ebden vs James Duckworth/Marc Polmans Preview

Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, seeded second in Australian Open 2024, face off against wildcards James Duckworth and Marc Polmans of Australia in the opening round. Aussie duo James Duckworth and Marc Polmans received a wildcard into the main draw and have a mountain to climb in their match against Bopanna and Ebden. Duckworth and Polmans are yet to make a significant impression and are still on the hunt for a major title.

Where and how to watch live streaming and TV broadcast of Rohan Bopanna/Matt Ebden vs Duckworth/Polmans, Australian Open 2024, first round match in India?

The first-round doubles match between Bopanna/Ebden and Duckworth/Polmans is scheduled for January 17 (Wednesday) and the broadcast rights have been awarded to Sony Network in India. For Television viewers, the options are the Sony Ten channels, while SonyLiv is available for those preferring to stream the Australian Open 2024 matches.

Prediction

Bopanna and Ebden, being the more experienced pair, should have no trouble getting past Duckworth and Polmans. The Indo-Australian pair are in their second season as a doubles team and have a good understanding on court.

Their debut season in 2023 was a memorable one, in which the pair finished second on the ATP Table. Bopanna was also the oldest finalist to play at the US Open, aged 43, when he and Ebden reached the final but lost to Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury.

Their opponents in the second round will be another Australian wildcard pair, John Millman/Edward Winter, or an unseeded duo Marcus Daniel/Marcelo Demoliner. Bopanna and Ebden are unlikely to face a serious challenge until they reach the semifinals, where they are likely to run into familiar foes Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury.

Ram and Salisbury lead the head-to-head against Bopanna and Ebden, 2-0. The two teams recently clashed at the Adelaide Open, with the former winning in three sets.

Result: Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden to win in straight sets.
