BBL: Top 5 teams with highest totals in Big Bash League history

On four occasions, teams have crossed 250+ totals in the BBL.
Big Bash League (BBL) is among the most exciting and nail-biting franchise T20 leagues around the world, which has entertained fans with nail-biting and nerve-wracking clashes over the years.
Since its maiden edition in 2011, Australia’s franchise T20 tournament has enjoyed wide popularity among fans for its high-scoring and pace-dominated clashes.
Australia are known for its flat and bouncy pitches, making it a high-scoring ground where batsmen have a significant advantage over bowlers. Therefore, the league has also observed teams posting high-scoring totals over the years.
Crossing the 200-run mark is quite a common phenomenon in the tournament. If we look at stats, only four teams hold the record for crossing the 250-run mark in this league. On that note, below are the top five highest team totals in Big Bash League history.

5. Sydney Thunder- 232/5 (vs Sydney Sixers, BBL 2020-21)

Sydney Thunder clinch the fifth spot with a mammoth total against Sydney Sixers in the 2020-21 edition. Led by Callum Ferguson, Sixers piled up 232/5 against Sydney Sixers in the 48th match of the tournament.
Opener Alex Hales (110) played a pivotal role in the team’s huge total with his century. Later, they restricted the opposition to 186/5, stealing a big victory by 46 runs.
4. Adelaide Strikers- 251/5 (vs Brisbane Heat, BBL 2024-25)

In the 2024-25 season, Adelaide Strikers piled up a massive total of 251/5 in a clash against Brisbane Heat. After being asked to bat first, Strikers crossed the 250-plus total on the board with a century by opener Matthew Short (109). Chris Lynn (47) and Alex Ross (44*) also made crucial contributions with the bat.
Later, the Brisbane Heat were bowled out for 195, with none of the batters managing to score a half-century. D’Arcy Short clinched a four-wicket haul to help the Strikers defend their mammoth total and clinch an easy victory by 56 runs.
3. Perth Scorchers- 257/6 (vs Brisbane Heat, BBL 2025-26)

In the sixth match of the 2025-26 season, Perth Scorchers registered a mountainous total of 257/6 against Brisbane Heat.
After being asked to bat first, Finn Allen (79) and Cooper Connolly (77) hit magnificent fifties to drive the scoreboard to a huge total. Nick Hobson added quickfire 26 runs off 11 balls towards the end.
Brisbane Heat bowlers looked helpless as Scorchers became the third team to cross the 250-run mark in BBL history. However, it wasn’t enough to avoid a defeat as the Heat chased down the target in the second innings.
2. Brisbane Heat- 258/2 (vs Perth Scorchers, BBL 2025-26)

On December 19, 2025, Brisbane Heat scripted history by chasing down the highest-ever total in BBL history.
Against a mammoth 258-run target against the Perth Scorchers, Jack Wildermuth (110*) and Matt Renshaw (102) played prominent roles in the chase, smacking centuries to propel the team to victory by eight wickets.
Despite a huge total in the first innings, Perth Scorchers bowlers were completely helpless against the opposition, with Jhye Richardson being the only bowler to grab one wicket in his kitty.
1. Melbourne Stars- 273/2 (vs Hobart Hurricanes, BBL 2021-22)
Melbourne Stars owns the record for the highest-ever total in BBL history. In the 56th match of the 2021-22 edition, Glenn Maxwell & Co. piled up 273/2 after being asked to bat first.
Captain Maxwell led the way for the team’s mammoth total, hitting an unbeaten 154 runs off just 64 deliveries to set the stadium on fire. Later, Hurricanes succumbed to the pressure, reaching 167/6 in the second innings with a lone half-century by Ben McDermott (55).
