BCCI has introduced Branco Test at the Centre of Excellence.
In a move to ensure Indian players maintain a high level of fitness, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced the rugby-centric Bronco Test. According to reports by The Indian Express, the move was suggested by Indian Cricket Team’s strength and conditioning coach Adrian le Roux.
Notably, Roux wants fast bowlers to undergo more running instead of being gym-focused and head coach Gautam Gambhir also agrees with the idea. The Branco test has been introduced by BCCI at Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The move comes after a few fast bowlers struggled with their fitness during the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Mohammed Siraj was the only pacer to maintain his fitness throughout the five games of the series.
Some players have taken Branco test in Bengaluru- Reports

According to reports by The Indian Express, some Indian cricketers have travelled to Bengaluru and taken the tests at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
“The Bronco Test has been introduced at the Centre of Excellence. Some of India’s contracted players have travelled to Bengaluru and have taken the test. The Bronco Test is being used to ensure there are clear fitness standards”, a source told The Indian Express.
“Also, it was noticed that Indian cricketers, more so the fast bowlers, were not running enough and spending too much time in the gym. Players have been told that they will have to do more running,” he further added.
Under the Branco test, a player starts with a 20-metre run, followed by a 40-metre run and a 60-metre run. This constitutes one set. A player has to do five such sets, which adds up to 1200 metres without taking a break. The Indian players have been asked to complete the Branco test in six minutes.
Notably, BCCI already have in place the yo-yo test and a two-kilometre trial run as fitness tests for top players. In the two-km trial run, the benchmark for fast bowlers is 8 minutes and 15 seconds. For batsmen, wicket-keepers, and spinners, it is 8 minutes and 30 seconds.
