Indian Cricket Team defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final to win T20 World Cup 2026.
The Indian Cricket Team had a magical time in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, the Men in Blue defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final to lift the trophy for the record third time in the tournament’s history.
Ahead of the tournament, India were touted as red-hot favourites to win T20 World Cup 2026 and they lived up to that expectation. They started the tournament on a high note, winning all four of their four games in the group stage.
However, they faced a setback at start the Super 8 stage. India lost to South Africa by a huge margin of 76 runs. But this loss came as blessing in disguise for them as after the loss, they identified the shortcomings they had and looked a class apart.
India then won four games on the trot and lifted the trophy. Their best came in the semi-final against England and final against New Zealand, where in both games they slammed over 250 runs.
BCCI announces INR 131 crore prize money for India after T20 World Cup 2026 win
With India becoming the first team to win defend the title and also the first to win the title at home, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came up with a huge prize for the team. The governing body has announced INR 131 crore prize money for players and support staff.
Releasing the official statement, BCCI said:
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of INR 131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
India lifted the prestigious trophy after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, successfully defending the title and becoming the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With this victory, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times, further cementing their place among the most successful teams in the history of the format.
The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future.
The Indian players will now be seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The league will begin on March 28 and will see over 70 games being played between the ten top teams.
