Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as chairman of the selection committee began in 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has retained Ajit Agarkar as the chairman of the selection committee. The governing body has extended the contract of the former Indian Cricket Team pacer till June 2026, and this will be his second term, having been appointed as the chief selector in mid-2023.
Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as a head selector has been quite successful, with India winning two ICC titles- the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025. Also, India underwent successful transitions in T20Is and tests with seniors retiring.
The current selection committee comprises Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra and S Sharath. Notably, the committee will witness some changes after the annual general body meeting in September. BCCI is expected to replace S Sharath, who has completed four years in his post since September 2021.
