The ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 will likely be the last major tournament for Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli.
After India won the T20 World Cup earlier this year without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the cricket world thought the Men in Blue were certainly ready for a complete revamp in other formats as well. However, that proved to be untrue.
After India’s ODI skipper Shubman Gill, veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have scored the most runs in ODIs for the Men in Blue in 2026. Sharma has scored 604 runs in 12 games with an average of 50. The former Indian captain has also scored two centuries and two fifties for India.
On the other side, Virat Kohli has racked up 552 runs in nine innings for the Men in Blue in the ODIs. His best score of 139 came recently against the West Indies in Thiruvantapuram. Kohli has scored two centuries and three fifties while maintaining an average of 69.
After them, the fourth-highest run scorer for the Men in Blue in ODIs in 2026 has been KL Rahul with a total of 323 runs in 10 matches. Thus, it won’t be a huge claim to make that the two batting veterans are still playing a crucial role in the Indian lineup and are likely to be named in the squad for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup on the African continent.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Mithun Manhas has claimed that Rohit and Kohli’s selection in the Indian team for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup will be based on their fitness and performance instead of their age.
While speaking to Sportstar, Manhas stated that the decision on Rohit and Kohli’s inclusion in next year’s World Cup squad is up to the selectors and coaches. As a result, the player’s form and fitness are more dominant factors than age. Mithun Manhas said:
“As far as the BCCI is concerned, we are not in a position to comment because it all depends on the selectors and the coaches. But from how I look at it, fitness and performance should be the criteria for selection, and definitely not age. If somebody is fit to play, and you see him performing and winning games for the country, that is the only criterion we should focus on.”
The inclusion of the two senior batters would surely help the Indian side, bringing experience to the World Cup, where they finished as runners-up last time around.
