The BCCI will meet with the IPL franchises to discuss retentions and RTMs for the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to allow up to six retentions per franchise before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

On July 31, the BCCI will meet the franchise owners to discuss the IPL 2025 mega auction, where the number of retentions and Right to Match (RTM) card allowances will be on the agenda. This meeting is expected to be held at the Cricket Centre, the BCCI headquarters, which is located within the Wankhede Stadium complex in Mumbai.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Hemang Amin, the IPL CEO, texted the franchise owners on July 25 about the schedule of the meeting on July 31.

The franchise owners have given their preferences and it’s varying significantly. While some suggested teams be allowed only one or two retentions, at least one franchise owner asked for as many as eight retentions before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

BCCI is against 8 retentions for IPL 2025 mega auction; likely to allow 5-6

The board has reportedly struck down the idea of eight retentions per team as it could mean that 80 top players could be retained. That would dilute the excitement of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

A report in Cricbuzz says, “As previously reported, the inputs from team owners vary, with suggestions differing between one and eight retentions. However, the BCCI is expected to settle on an average number, possibly five or six.”

There were no Right To Match (RTM) cards allowed in the previous mega-auction in 2022. But it could be re-introduced this time.
