Rishabh Pant was struck on his left index finger on day one of the Lord’s test.

Indian Cricket Team vice-captain Rishabh Pant suffered an injury on first day of the ongoing third test against the England Cricket Team. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Rishabh Pant, during the 34th over of the first innings, suffered a blow to his left index finger, and things didn’t look great for him. The keeper-batter was seen wincing in pain and was forced to walk off the field as he didn’t get the clearance from the physios to keep the wickets.

In his place, Dhruv Jurel walked out in the middle and kept wickets as a substitute. He was there until the stumps, even though it was revealed that Pant’s injury is not serious and he just needs icing to treat it. While the left-hander didn’t return to the field on day one, it was expected that he would be there on day two.

Dhruv Jurel will continue to keep wickets on Day 2 – BCCI

But that wasn’t the case, as it was Dhruv Jurel, who continued being there as a substitute keeper. And to confirm, he will be keeping wicket for the entire innings as Rishabh Pant is still recovering from the injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Dhruv Jurel will continue to keep wickets as the medical team is still monitoring Pant’s progress. Releasing the official statement, it said:

“Rishabh Pant is still recovering from the hit on his left index finger. The BCCI medical team continues to monitor his progress. Dhruv Jurel will continue to keep wickets on Day 2.”

There is no clarity on whether Rishabh Pant will come out to bat if India bat on the second day. Ahead of the start of the day’s play, the keeper-batter attempted to take a couple of balls, but he didn’t look comfortable. He was also struggling to hold the bat.

If Pant doesn’t bat for India, then it will be a massive blow for the Shubman Gill-led side. He is the second-best batter for the team in the series, and his absence would mean that the visitors will be a batter short.
