India and Sri Lanka are the co-hosts of Asia Cup 2025, which is originally scheduled for September this year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rubbished rumours of Indian Cricket Team pulling out of Asia Cup 2025. The tournament is going to be played later in September this year. India and Sri Lanka are co-hosts of the tournament.

In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor by Indian Armed Forces, tensions arose between India and Pakistan in the border regions a week ago. Due to security issues, Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was halted by the BCCI for a week on May 9. Later, the tournament was resumed with a revised schedule.

Due to the rise in political tensions between India and Pakistan, there were rumours that Indian Cricket Team would not participate in Asia Cup 2025, and BCCI has pulled out of the tournament. Some media outlets also confirmed such reports. However, BCCI has completely denied any such decision.

BCCI denies rumours of India pulling out of Asia Cup 2025

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has informed that the BCCI have not taken any decision to pull out of Asia Cup 2025. He also added that the BCCI has not discussed any such matter so far. They are currently focused on the ongoing IPL and the upcoming England test series.

“Since this morning, it has come to our notice about some news items about BCCI’s decision not to participate in Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC’s events. The Asia Cup matter or any other ACC event issue has not come up for discussion at any level, hence any news or report on that is purely speculative and imaginary”, Saikia was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Notably, India and Pakistan do not play bilateral cricket with each other. However, they face each other in the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments and Asia Cup tournaments.

Meanwhile, Asia Cup 2025 will witness a clash between eight teams. The five full-time members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh have earned automatic qualification.

Hong Kong, Oman, and UAE have qualified for the tournament through their performance in 2024 ACC Men’s Premier Cup. India are the defending champions of the Asia Cup. They crushed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final of the previous edition in 2023.
