The BCCI Review Meeting held in Mumbai has concluded. The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, along with head coach Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and other key officials, were present at this meeting.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar was not part of the meeting. Several key points were discussed during the meeting, and India’s recent performance across all formats was reviewed. However, one of the most important topics of the meeting was the future of former Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
India are preparing for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup, which is all set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia between 4 October and 21 November, 2027. India reached the final of the last edition in 2023 under Rohit.
However, there were some media reports that India are looking beyond Rohit. Some reports claimed that Rohit was set to retire after the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground in July.

The BCCI secretary has dropped a massive hint on Rohit’s future in ODIs for India. Devajit Saikia confirmed the BCCI’s stance on Rohit amid the speculations that the Indian management is looking to move on from the former captain.
In his recent interaction, he said, “He is playing superbly in all matches. What do you want? He scored 138 in the last match. Don’t give fodder to such rumours.”
Rohit has already retired from Tests and T20Is. The 50-over format is the only format that he has been active in at the international level. A month back, there were some rumours about Rohit’s sudden ODI retirement ahead of the third ODI against England.
However, Rohit’s response with the bat has certainly put the speculation to rest. He slammed a blistering 138 runs in the final ODI.
This is not the first time that Saikia has supported Rohit on his ODI future. Before the final ODI against England, he backed Rohit to play long.
He said, “Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team, and he will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, the Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match.”
