According to a report by Dainik Jagran, some of India’s selectors do not want Rohit Sharma to be part of the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The selectors are said to have informed Rohit that he was not part of their plans for World Cup, while the BCCI held a different stance. This created internal disagreement, especially after BCCI publicly backed the veteran opener during the England ODI series.
India still have plenty of ODI cricket left before the 2027 ODI World Cup, giving the selectors enough time to evaluate players based on form and fitness. While younger players continue to push for new opportunities, experienced cricketers like Rohit Sharma still bring match-winning ability and big-match experience.
During India’s ODI series against England, Rohit Sharma managed scores of 11 and 26 in the first two matches, and at that time, some reports claimed that the third ODI at Lord’s would be his last appearance for India.
But, instead of entertaining those rumours, Rohit scored a brilliant 138 runs at Lord’s and became the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at the iconic venue.
The final decision is likely to depend on performance over the next year rather than current speculation. For now, Rohit remains available for India, and there has been no official confirmation, suggesting that he is not there in the future ODI plans.
The report also claims that the BCCI is considering changes in the selection committee, with former India batter VVS Laxman reported being discussed as a possible replacement for Ajit Agarkar. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding any such move.
