BCCI’s introduction of the two-bouncer per over rule was welcomed by many cricket pundits.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are reportedly reviewing the two-bouncer per over rule along with the Impact Player rule, according to reports. The rules are currently used in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The two-bouncer rule was introduced in domestic cricket and also in the IPL last season in which the bowlers can use a second bouncer in an over. It is to be noted that only one bouncer per over is allowed in international cricket.

The two-bouncer rule has been applauded and accepted by cricket experts as it gives more range to the bowlers. However, the Impact Player rule has sparked a debate among active and former cricketers. The IPL franchise owners, too, have given their say on it.

BCCI to review two-bouncer, Impact Player rules

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the BCCI is all set to review these two rules and the board will arrive on a decision on them ahead of the SMAT 2024.

“We understand that Impact Player and two bouncer rules are the key points and no decision has been taken. The decision on whether to include these rules in the SMAT will impact their continuation in the IPL,” an official representing a state unit told Cricbuzz.

Recently a note from the BCCI addressed to its state units stated, “In relation to the Domestic Season 2024 – 25, we are sharing the following documents for your kind perusal. 1. Guidelines to the Host Associations and Participating teams; 2. Playing Conditions; Men’s Multi Day; Men’s One Day; Women’s Multi Day; Women’s One Day; Women’s T20; Women’s U-15,” adding, Men’s T20 Playing Conditions will be shared shortly.”

The SMAT 2024 will start in November.
