The Impact Player rule was introduced in the IPL 2023 season.

The Impact Player rule is going to be a hot topic during the meeting between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners on July 31.

The BCCI has shared a five-point agenda with the IPL franchise owners for their meeting on Wednesday. Two key topics to be discussed in the meeting are the IPL player retention / Right To Match card rules for the IPL 2025 mega auction and the Impact Player rule for next year’s tournament. The meeting will be held at 7:30 pm in the BCCI office on the fourth floor of the Wankhede Stadium Complex.

Introduced in IPL 2023, this rule is two seasons old. This year, it received a lot of criticism, including some high-profile cricketers and coaches as it hinders the development of Indian all-rounders.

BCCI could scrap Impact Player rule from IPL after criticism from players

However, according to a report in Cricbuzz, the broadcasters of the IPL are in favour of keeping the Impact Player rule.

A report in Cricbuzz said, “While the playing and coaching community is believed to be largely opposed to it, the broadcasters – who have invested over Rs 48,000 crore into the league – seem strongly in favour of its continuation.”

It has been learned that the board may initially remove it from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The items to be discussed during this meeting are:

ITEM NO. 1: Discussion on IPL Player Regulations including:

A. Players Retention / Right to Match

B. Salary Cap (Auction Purse, Incremental Performance Pay & Match Fee)

C. Big Auction

D. Capped to uncapped players

E. Player Trade / Player Loan

ITEM NO. 2: Overseas Players

ITEM NO. 3: Discussion on Impact Player Rule

ITEM NO. 4: IPL Gaming rights

ITEM NO. 5: Discussion on IPL Central Merchandising

ITEM NO. 6: To consider any other business matters related to the IPL.
