Rishabh Pant fell for 74 runs just before lunch on day three of the Lord’s test.

When India’s test vice-captain Rishabh Pant is at the crease, there is rarely a quiet time. The ever-vocal Pant keeps the stump mic alive whether he’s behind the stumps or holding the bat.

He has continued his usual banter during the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and on day 3 of the third test at the Lord’s, England’s Ben Duckett chose to speak up, only to be met with the Indian gloveman’s characteristically scathing reply.

When India were chasing England’s impressive 387 first-innings total, Pant delivered a valiant effort that was full of style and resolve. He produced a tough 74 off 112 balls while battling agony with a damaged finger on his left hand, a counterattacking innings that raised Indian expectations.

India were under pressure when Pant joined KL Rahul and proved to be a capable ally. Together, they crafted a crucial 141-run partnership that swung the tide back in India’s favor and brought about a much-needed comeback.

“Same like you”- Rishabh Pant tells Ben Duckett in scathing reply to his jibe

Chris Woakes was obviously attempting to stop Pant from rushing down the field, especially with the keeper standing up to the stumps. Pant’s response was very restrained. The left-hander picked his opportunities well and batted with patience against Woakes, save for the odd bold reverse lap.

Sensing the muted approach, Ben Duckett attempted to distract Pant by making fun of the pace of his innings. The vice-captain of India, who never backs down from a verbal altercation, swiftly put an end to the chirping with a scathing reaction.

Here is the conversation:

Ben Duckett: “Just batting for the draw?”

Rishabh Pant: “Me?”

Duckett: “Yeah”

Pant: “Same like you”

Duckett: “Same like me, bro?”

Pant: “Same like you”

Duckett: “Yeah? That’s me playing on Day 1.”

Pant: It’s still nibbling.”

Duckett: “Not right now.”

Pant: “It is, it is”
