5. Shamar Joseph – 7/68 vs Australia, 2024
Shamar Joseph produced one of the most remarkable bowling performances in West Indies’ historic win against Australia in 2024 at the Gabba in a day-night test match.
Defending a low total of 216 runs in the fourth innings, Shamar ran through the Australian batting lineup, registering 7/68 in 12 overs.
What makes his performance stand out is that he bowled with a toe injury. He was named Player of the Match for his memorable spell.
4. Keith Miller – 7/60 vs England, 1946
Regarded as one of Australia’s best test all-rounders, Keith Miller delivered an outstanding spell in the first test of the Ashes 1946-47 series, which was played in Brisbane. Posting 645 runs in the first innings, Australia hammered England in the opening game.
Miller’s bowling figures of 7/60 helped Australia bowl out England for just 141 runs in their first innings. Australia ultimately won the game by an innings and 332 runs to lead the five-match series 1-0.
3. Shane Warne – 7/23 vs Pakistan, 1995
Australia’s greatest spinner, Shane Warne produced an unplayable spell of 7/23 against Pakistan in Brisbane in 1995. Warne out-spun the Pakistani batting order to restrict them to just 97 runs in their first innings.
Australia won the test by an innings and 126 runs. Warne was named Player of the Match for picking up 11 wickets in the test.
2. Shane Warne – 8/71 vs England, 1994
Shane Warne’s best bowling figures of 8/71 came in Brisbane against England in Ashes 1994. Bowling on a good pitch, Warne tore through the English batting lineup, delivering a sensational spell of 8/71 in the second innings.
Warne helped the hosts bowl out England for 323 runs in the second innings. The Aussies ultimately won the game by a margin of 184 runs. Warne was named Player of the Match.
1. Sir Richard Hadlee – 9/52 vs Australia, 1985
Legendary Kiwi all-rounder Sir Richard Hadlee holds the record for the best bowling figures in an innings at the Gabba in test cricket for his 9/52 against Australia in 1985. Hadlee’s nine-wicket haul bundled out the hosts for 179 runs in their first innings.
Hadlee finished the game with excellent bowling figures of 15/123. New Zealand won the test by an innings and 41 runs and Hadlee was named Player of the Match for his heroic efforts.
