Shakib Al Hasan is Bangladesh’s all-time leading wicket-taker and third-highest run-scorer in international cricket.

Shakib Al Hasan is the greatest cricketer Bangladesh has produced. Having made his debut in 2006, the all-rounder quickly cemented his spot in Bangladesh’s XI and remained a key member of the side throughout his career across the three formats.

With over 14000 runs and over 700 wickets in international cricket, Shakib’s name in world cricket’s history has been etched as one of the finest all-rounders of all time. The southpaw notched up 14 centuries and 50 half-centuries as a batsman, and picked up 25 five-wicket hauls in his illustrious international career.

On that note, we will talk about his top five performances for Bangladesh.

1. 3/59, 5/70 & 96* vs West Indies, St. George’s, 2009

Bangladesh made their test debut in 2000, and it took them nine years to register their first overseas test series victory. It came against the West Indies on the 2009 tour.

Shakib played a crucial role in the victory in the second test of the series at St. George’s. Bangladesh won the game by four wickets, and Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the Player of the Match. He registered figures of 3/59 and 5/70 with the ball and scored an unbeaten 96 off 97 balls while chasing 215 in the fourth innings.

He was also named the Player of the Series.

2. 5/68, 5/85 & 84 vs Australia, Mirpur, 2017

Bangladesh have recorded only one test match win against Australia. That win came in 2017 in Mirpur, courtesy of Shakib Al Hasan’s incredible all-round display.

Bangladesh won that test by 20 runs. Shakib took 5/68 and 5/85 with the ball. His second fifer restricted Australia to 244, while the hosts set on to chase 265. Shakib also scored 84 runs in the first innings. The all-rounder duly bagged the Man of the Match award.

3. 124* vs West Indies, Taunton, 2019 World Cup

The ICC 2019 World Cup saw the best version of Shakib Al Hasan in ODI cricket, as he scored 606 runs with two centuries and five half-centuries and took 11 wickets as well.

He scored his highest score in the tournament against West Indies. The left-hander slammed an unbeaten 124 off 99 balls with 16 fours while chasing 322 runs, helping his side to a memorable victory.

Bangladesh registered the third-biggest run chase in ODI World Cup history. Shakib also took 2/54 with the ball and won the Player of the Match award.

4. 5/80, 5/44 & 137 vs Zimbabwe, Khulna, 2014

There have been only three instances when a player has scored a century and taken ten wickets in the same test. Imran Khan, Ian Botham, and Shakib Al Hasan have done this incredible feat.

Shakib did it on his test comeback in 2014 in Khulna against Zimbabwe. This was the dominating performance by Bangladesh as Shakib scored 137 runs off 180 in the first innings.

With the ball, he took 5/80 and 5/44 to help Bangladesh win by 162 runs. With this, he joined an elite list of all-rounders.

5. 114 vs New Zealand, Cardiff, 2017 Champions Trophy

The best result for Bangladesh in an ICC tournament was in the 2017 Champions Trophy when they made it to the semifinals.

They faced New Zealand in Cardiff in a must-win group game for them. They were chasing 266 to win and were struggling at 33/4 in 11.4 overs. But then Shakib turned up with a terrific century.

He made 114 off 115 and added 234 runs with Mahmudullah (102*). The veteran duo took Bangladesh to an important win that helped them qualify for the semi-final, where they lost to India.
