The first BGT 2024-25 test will start on November 22 in Perth.

Australia are set to host India in a highly anticipated five-match test series. The first test of the series will start on November 22 in Optus Stadium, Perth.

However, India’s preparations have taken a hit with star batsman Shubman Gill sustaining a thumb injury. The blow has cast serious doubt on the availability of India’s promising youngster. Additionally, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is also set to miss the first test due to personal reasons.

The unavailability of two of the most important top-order batsmen has forced the Asian giants to make some last-minute adjustments. Amid this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the inclusion of a left-handed batter in the test squad.

BGT 2024-25: Devdutt Padikkal added to India’s squad for Perth Test

The BCCI has included Devdutt Padikkal in the Indian squad for the first test. Padikkal was a part of India A side that played against Australia A recently. Padikkal starred for India A in the second innings of the first game, registering a fluent knock of 88 runs.

Padikkal made his test debut against England in Dharamsala earlier this year scoring 65 runs on his debut innings. The Southpaw is now in line to take up the No. 3 slot tomorrow.

Speaking about his inclusion, Padikkal said, “I feel pretty surreal, to be honest. The intensity of the practice sessions is very high. You feel that challenge; you feel everyone is ready to go for a big series ahead. It’s always been a pleasure having training sessions with the Indian side because it feels like having a match, so hopefully, we can translate that into the game as well.

Padikkal emphasized that he is looking forward to making the chance count. “Coming here for the A tour, I was hoping that I could do well enough to stay back. I am glad that I am getting this opportunity, and hopefully, I can make it count.” Padikkal concluded.
