India fought back on the third day of the fourth BGT 2024-25 test in Melbourne.

The fourth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has now come alive thanks to the spirited fightback led by the Indian all-rounders.

Resuming their innings at 164/5 on day 4, India lost wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant cheaply. Pant’s wicket came via a strange ramp shot attempt, where the ball took the leading edge of his bat and went straight to Nathan Lyon to thirdman.

Nitish Kumar Reddy once again emerged as India’s saviour, playing an unbeaten 105-run knock that included 10 fours and a six. Reddy changed gears throughout the day and aggressively took on off-spinner Lyon to prevent him from settling on a length.

Reddy was joined by Washington Sundar, who made his comeback after being dropped in the last two tests at Adelaide and Brisbane. The duo added 127 runs for the eighth-wicket partnership. Sundar brought up his fourth test half-century and the pair guided India past the 350-run mark.

Australia managed to dismiss Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah during the last few overs of the day.

India will resume their innings tomorrow at 358/9, with Nitish Reddy on 105* and Mohammed Siraj on 2*. The visitors will aim at taking early wickets to give themselves a chance of winning the game.
