Rohit Sharma scored just nine runs in the second BGT 2024-25 test in Adelaide.

Rohit Sharma‘s recent struggles with the bat have raised concerns about his place in the Indian Cricket Team. To make the matter worse, his captaincy decisions have also taken a hit, with many critics suggesting that the Indian captain has become overly defensive in his tactics.

India’s performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 has been inconsistent. Australia’s comeback in the second game at Adelaide has levelled the series 1-1. What’s concerning for India is their batting performance; the Indian batting lineup has failed to deliver in three out of four outings in the series so far.

The team’s poor run of form began in October with their embarrassing 0-3 home test defeat against New Zealand. The Indian skipper on the other hand has been poor with the bat, managing just 100 runs in his last four games.

In light of this, experienced Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara has shared his thoughts about how Rohit can lead the team better.

Cheteshwar Pujara on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy

Speaking to Star Sports after the Adelaide test, Cheteshwar Pujara emphasized the importance of Rohit’s return to form with the bat.

Pujara said, “First of all, I would like Rohit Sharma to come back to form as soon as possible. Because when he scores runs, it will affect his captaincy as well. When a captain is out of form, it affects his captaincy as well. So, I think when scores runs, it will affect his captaincy,

He also noted the importance of a good start for Sharma, suggesting that he should focus on accumulating the first 20 to 30 runs steadily.

He continued, “Rohit Sharma is an experienced player. He knows how to score runs when batting. He is going through some bad form. But even there, a start is very important for him. He should focus on getting his first 20 or 30 runs steadily. After that, he can capitalize on the start and convert it into a big score.
