Mohammed Shami returned to competitive cricket last month.

Australian Cricket Team made a remarkable comeback in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 defeating India by 10 wickets in the second test. This victory extended Australia’s unbeaten streak in the day-night tests at the Adelaide Oval.

Opting to bat first, India faced a batting collapse, getting bowed out on just 180 runs in the first innings. Mitchell Starc maintained his sublime record in the day-night tests picking up 11 wickets in the game.

Meanwhile, home town hero Travis Head starred for the hosts in the batting department scoring a blistering 140 off 141 balls. Replying to Australia’s 157-run lead, the Indian batting lineup crumbled once again, setting a small target of just 19 runs for the host. Australia seized a commanding 10-wicket victory to level the series 1-1.

After the defeat, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma shared a massive update about speedster Mohammed Shami, who has recently made his return to competitive cricket after missing an entire year due to an ankle injury.

Rohit Sharma an provides injury update on Mohammed Shami

Providing update on Mohammed Shami’s fitness, Indian captain Rohit said, “We’re closely monitoring Shami. He got knee swelling in SMAT.

The Indian captain added that the door is open for the veteran fast bowler to join the squad in Australia.

Rohit continued, “The door is very much open – we are monitoring him, want to be very very careful – more than 100% – we don’t want to put pressure on him, there are lots of professionals with him, they will take the call but that door is very much open for him to come & play”.

Considering the rigorous schedule, India will hope that Mohammed Shami makes his return soon. Given the injury history of Jasprit Bumrah, the team will likely need to rotate the fast bowlers and provide Bumrah with rest in between matches.
