Steve Smith made 17 runs in the first BGT 2024-25 test in Perth.

Indian Cricket Team created history by becoming the first team to defeat Australia at Perth’s new Optus Stadium in a test match.

Australia, who boast an impressive record at Optus Stadium in Perth over the past few years, were shambolic with the bat against the Indian bowlers. The pace trio of Jasprit BumrahMohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana destroyed the Australian batting sharing 16 wickets between them.

The action will now shift to Adelaide, where the Aussies will host India in the second test of the five-match series, in a day-night encounter.

Australia stand tall with 11 victories out of 12 games in pink ball tests, while India have won three out of four day-night tests. The last time these two teams faced each other in a day-night test, India slumped to a historic low, getting bowled out for 36 runs in the second innings of the game.

However, a concerning update has emerged from the Australian camp regarding the fitness of their star batter Steve Smith. Smith, who struggled in the first test at Perth’s Optus Stadium, sustained an injury blow during the practice session in Adelaide.

According to reports from multiple sources, Australia’s middle-order batsman Steve Smith has suffered a finger injury during net practice session ahead of the pink ball test in Adelaide.

In the video, Steve Smith can be seen in discomfort after sustaining a blow on the finger from Marnus Labuschagne during a throwdown session. As per a report in RevSportz, Smith was attended to by the team physio before leaving the session.

Smith’s injury adds to Australia’s concerns as they are already without Josh Hazlewood, who is sidelined with a side strain. Beau Webster has also been called as a cover for all-rounder Mitchell Marsh who complained about “soreness” after Perth test. However, Mitchell Marsh has confirmed now that he’s good to go in the Adelaide test.

Australia squad (Adelaide test): Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wk), Brendan Doggett, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster
