The BGT 2024-25 stands locked at 1-1 after two tests.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 is evenly poised at 1-1 after two exciting games. While India dominated the series opener in Perth with a commanding 295-run victory, the hosts bounced back in Adelaide, defeating India by 10 wickets in the day-night encounter.

After a brilliant start that saw Australia bundling out the visitors for the score of just 180 runs in the first innings, the Australian top order batters showed resistance under lights on day one.

Middle-order batter Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne starred for the Aussies with the bat with scores of 140 and 64 respectively. Nathan McSweeney played a key part as well for the hosts by playing a gritty knock of 39 in the first innings.

The pace attack of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland ran through the Indian batting lineup combining for all 20 wickets in the game.

India have more questions than answers before the third game of the series. Rohit Sharma’s underwhelming performances with the bat and as a captain have increased concerns about his future in test cricket.

As the action shifts to Brisbane for the third test, India will look to get back on the winning ways to strengthen their grip in the series. On that note, let’s look at how the Indian team have fared at the Gabba in Brisbane so far in test cricket.

How many test matches have India won in Brisbane?

India have played a total of seven test matches at the Gabba, Brisbane. Out of these, they won only one test, lost five, and drew once. India have played at the Gabba in 1947, 1968, 1977, 1991, 2003, 2014 and 2021.

India registered their only draw at the venue in 2003. Opting to bat first on a batting-friendly wicket, Justin Langer carried Australia to first innings total of 323 runs. Saurav Ganguly, with his innings of 144 runs, led India’s reply to help the visitors put 409 on the board.

In their second innings, Australia declared at 284/3, setting up an intriguing final day. However, the match ended in a dull draw, with India negotiating the remaining overs to finish at 73/2.

India’s only victory at the Gabba came in a historic test in 2021 when the visitors defied all odds to guide the team to a three-wicket win, breaching Australia’s long-standing fortress.

After conceding 369 runs in the first innings, Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur propelled India to 336 with their brilliant half-centuries.

Mohammed Siraj then took five wickets to restrict Australia to 294 runs in their second innings. Despite challenging batting conditions and a world-class bowling attack, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill scored 91 and 89 runs respectively to seal a famous win.
