Harshit Rana made his test debut in the Perth test.

Young speedster Harshit Rana was heard pleading like a schoolboy to skipper Jasprit Bumrah to take a review on Steve Smith during Australiaā€™s second innings in the Perth test.

A key cog in Kolkata Knight Ridersā€™ title-winning campaign earlier this year, Rana made his test debut in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, and partnered Bumrah and Siraj as India blew away Australia for only 104 runs in their first innings.

Ranaā€™s maiden test wicket was Travis Head, who has been Indiaā€™s nemesis since last year, before dismissing tailenders Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon. Rana finished with figures of 3/48 in Australiaā€™s first innings.

However, he couldnā€™t take a wicket in his first 10 overs in Australiaā€™s second innings and was expensive as well, leaking runs at an economy of 5.7 as Mitchell Marsh and Head took him on.

During Australiaā€™s second innings, Rana had to plead with skipper Bumrah for a DRS on Smith after rapping the Australian batsman on his front pad.

Rana was heard saying to Bumrah, ā€œKasam se bohot saamne laga hai (I swear itā€™s hit him in front of the stumps).ā€

Bumrah obliged to this innocent request from Harshit and took the review. However, while the ball hit Smithā€™s pads in front of the stumps, it was angled into the batsman and hence it went down the leg side. Smith was adjudged not out.

Watch this funny request from Harshit Rana to Bumrah:

Currently, India are on top of Australia in Perth. Having set a target of 534 runs, India took Australiaā€™s first five second-innings wickets for 79 runs. Marsh and Head have now posed a fightback but a loss for Australia seems inevitable.
