Jasprit Bumrah is the current leading wicket-taker in the BGT 2024-25.

Following the 2nd Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test, which ended in Australia’s favor, India captain Rohit Sharma spoke about the workload management of spearhead fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. But, he made it clear that the seamer will not be rested for the third or any of the rest of the three test matches in the series.

India were given a scare on day 2 of the Adelaide test when Bumrah went down on the ground midway through his 20th over of the innings, clutching his adductor. The physio tended to him and he continued to bowl.

While for now there doesn’t seem to be any injury issue with Bumrah – he took the field and bowled one over in Australia’s second innings that lasted only 3.2 overs – questions over his rest and workload management are bound to happen.

Among the three Indian seamers, Bumrah has bowled the most overs so far in this series. He is the leading wicket-taker of the series with 12 scalps at an average of 11.25.

We want Bumrah to play all the matches and remain fresh: Rohit Sharma

In the post-match press conference in Adelaide, Sharma was asked whether Bumrah will be rested in the third test in Gabba. The India captain stated he doesn’t plan to rest Bumrah at any point in the series.

Rohit explained, “No, see, as and when he has a spell, I talk to him. I ask him how his body is feeling. Is he fresh or not? Because it’s a five-match series, as you said. And in a five-match series, we want Bumrah to play all the matches and remain fresh. So, it becomes important to analyse all this when you are playing a Test match in which the bowler is bowling… how much workload is there? How much is not there? It becomes important to manage all this.”

Rohit then emphasized on the need of other bowlers stepping up to support Bumrah.

With the series level at 1-1, both teams will head to Brisbane, where the third test will get underway on December 14.
