Mitchell Marsh took three wickets in the first test of BGT 2024-25 in Perth.

Following India’s 295-run victory in Perth in the opening test, they will take on Australia in Adelaide in the second match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Starting on Friday, December 6, the second test is a day-night affair.

Australia are undefeated at the Adelaide Oval in day-night tests, winning all of their seven games at the venue. Interestingly, the last time India played a test match at Adelaide, they were bundled out for their lowest test score of 36 runs in the second innings of the game.

Australia are closely monitoring the fitness of star allrounder Mitchell Marsh, who reported soreness following the Perth test. Despite concerns about his fitness, his impactful performances with the bat since his return during the Ashes last year have cemented his spot as a specialist batter.

Nathan Lyon recently expressed optimism about the fitness of Western Australian allrounder in the pre-match press conference.

Nathan Lyon confident about Marsh’s bowling before the Adelaide test

Lyon expressed optimism about Marsh’s bowling fitness, stating he believes the allrounder will contribute with the ball in Adelaide. The off-spinner added that he’d be happy to take extra bowling responsibility in case Marsh couldn’t bowl.

The Australian off spinner said, “I honestly think we’ll see Mitch Marsh bowl, I’m not concerned about Bison’s fitness, if I’m being honest. He’s been brilliant for us since he’s come back in. He came [back] in that game in Leeds during the Ashes and [has] really dominated. I’ve got full confidence in Bison. Happy to bowl his overs.

Lyon holds the key for Australia in the second test. The New South Wales spinner boasts an impressive record at the venue with 63 wickets to his name. Adding to Australia’s injury concerns star fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is also ruled out of the game with Scott Boland likely to replace him in the XI.
