Mohammed Siraj has been copping boos from the Australian fans since his altercation with Travis Head in Adelaide.
Since his fiery exchange with Travis Head in the second BGT 2024-25 test match in Adelaide, India pacer Mohammed Siraj has been at the receiving end of criticism from Australian media and booing from the home team’s fans.
While Siraj and Head made peace by the end of the Adelaide fixture, the booing spilled from Adelaide to Brisbane as the seamer was greeted with jeers from the crowd at the Gabba, where the third test got underway on Saturday morning.
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first under cloudy conditions. Mohammed Siraj was given the second over of the innings and was welcomed with a chorus of boos from the crowd at the stadium.
As he charged in to bowl, the crowd’s noise got louder. This didn’t affect Siraj much as he started off with a maiden to Nathan McSweeney. But in his next over, as Usman Khawaja pulled the pacer for a boundary, the crowd cheered for the batsman and then booed the Indian pacer again.
Siraj later bowled a maiden to Khawaja as well. By this time, the boos had almost died down.

Meanwhile, only 13.2 overs of play was possible in the first session because of persistent rain. The second session is also set to be washed out completely. India have failed to pick up a wicket yet.
