Steve Smith has made 19 runs in the BGT 2024-25 so far.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 has been a gripping series so far, with the scoreline being 1-1 after the first two tests.

India started the five-match series with a sensational 295-run victory in Perth, thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s impressive batting performance in the second innings. The hosts, however, bounced back in the second test in Adelaide with their dominant 10-wicket win.

The third test will be contested in Brisbane from December 14. The last time these two teams faced off at this venue, India chased down a challenging 328-run target on the final day, ending Australia’s 32-year undefeated streak at the ground.

Despite their convincing victory in the last game, Australia will be a bit worried about the batting form of star batter Steve Smith. Smith has averaged just 23.20 in seven tests in 2024. His last century came in June last year at Lord’s in Ashes 2023.

Pat Cummins on Steve Smith’s poor form

Ahead of the Gabba test, Australian captain Pat Cummins shared his thoughts on the Smith’s lean run with the bat. Cummins expressed confidence in Smith’s ability to turn his fortunes around soon.

Cummins said, “In particular this year, he’s looking fantastic in the nets, just looking really sharp, looking like he’s got plenty of time, doing all the right things like he always does. He got caught down the leg side last game. I don’t know if you can look into that too much, so I’m sure a big score’s just around the corner.

Cummins also emphasized the importance of dominating at home with regard to the World Test Championship (WTC).

Cummins added, “Winning in Australia is a matter of pride: these are our home conditions, and we’ve grown up playing here. To succeed in the World Test Championship, you need to win all your home series and capitalize on opportunities abroad. That’s the standard we’ve set for ourselves.
