Rishabh Pant scored 37 runs in India’s first innings in Perth, smacking three fours and a six in his knock.
There are some things on a cricket field that only Rishabh Pant can do. Like playing this outrageous shot off Pat Cummins, one of the leading fast bowlers in the world, on a lively day 1 surface at the bouncy Optus Stadium in Perth.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 kicked off on Friday in Perth. And once again Pant’s importance to India’s batting line-up came to the fore as he held India’s innings while the Australian pacers plucked out one wicket after another.
Jasprit Bumrah, the stand-in captain, won the toss and opted to bat first. However, India got bowled out for only 150 runs in two sessions in less than 50 overs.
Rishabh Pant was the second-highest scorer for this side with 37 runs off 78 balls. In his knock, the left-hander cracked three fours and a sensational six against Cummins. Pant played an unbelievable shot, flicking a delivery outside the off-stump to over fine leg for a maximum.
Cummins came around the wicket to target Pant’s body and the stumps. To a full ball on the off-stump, Pant bent low and nonchalantly deposited it over fine leg for a six. In the process, he fell on the ground but had hit the ball with enough power for it to clear the rope.
