Yashasvi Jaiswal has dropped three catches in Australia’s second innings at the MCG.

India have made a remarkable comeback to give themselves a decent chance of winning the Boxing Day test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Melbourne.

Starting the day at 358/9, India added 10 more runs to their overnight score and were bowled out for 369. Nitish Kumar Reddy was the star for the visitors, scoring his maiden test century. Facing a 105-run deficit, the Indian bowlers delivered a remarkable comeback, dismantling Australia‘s top order.

Jasprit Bumrah started the proceedings for India, removing debutant Sam Konstas for just seven runs. Mohammed Siraj, who was wicketless in the first innings, supported Bumrah by dismissing Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith.

Smith’s dismissal opened the floodgates, as Bumrah took three wickets in quick succession, removing Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Alex Carey to leave the hosts at 94/6.

A key moment in the game occurred before the Tea break when Marnus Labuschagne attempted a late cut off Akash Deep’s delivery, playing the ball straight to Yashasvi Jaiswal at third slip. However, the youngster dropped his second catch of the day, having already missed one earlier off Khawaja.

The missed opportunity resulted in angry reactions from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and bowler Akash Deep.

At the time of writing, India have finally dismissed Marnus Labuschagne, with Mohammed Siraj trapping him LBW at 70. Pat Cummins (29*) and Mitchell Starc (2*) are at the crease.

Contrary to expectations, the pitch has continued to play well. India will hope for top-order contributions and will back themselves to chase down any target.
