Steve Smith had dropped KL Rahul on the first ball of day 4.

Having dropped KL Rahul on the first ball of day 4 of the Gabba test, Steve Smith got his redemption as he pulled a one-handed stunner before lunch to the same batsman to raise Australia’s chances of securing a victory while the hosts battle with time and weather in Brisbane.

Australia could have had the perfect start to day 4 of the ongoing third BGT 2024-25 test had Smith held on to a simple catch at second slip of Rahul after the batsman edged an outside-off-stump delivery from Pat Cummins.

Though Smith got his redemption later on, Rahul added 51 runs after being dropped. Rahul had batted brilliantly at the Gabba but missed out on a century by 16 runs.

He was dismissed off Nathan Lyon’s bowling in the 43rd over of India’s innings. It was a flatter, slightly quicker delivery on length to which Rahul rocked back and looked to cut in his trademark fashion behind square on the off side.

However, Lyon got some extra bounce off the Gabba surface and Rahul slashed it to the right of Smith, who lunged down with his right hand and managed to get it on the ball.

The ball went quickly to Smith but he was swift in his movement in getting low and plucking a sensational one-handed catch, showing his sharp reflexes.
