Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored half-centuries in both innings of the Boxing Day test at MCG.

The fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is headed for an exciting finish.

Resuming with a 333-run lead, Australia’s last pair, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland, added six more runs to set India a target of 340 in the final innings. Jasprit Bumrah starred for India with another five-wicket haul, taking his tally to 30 wickets in the ongoing series.

India’s chase got off to a disastrous start as Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli all fell for single-digit scores, leaving the team 33/3 at Lunch.

An interesting moment unfolded after the lunch break when Mitchell Starc swapped the bail to unsettle Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, Jaiswal quickly switched it back, prompting Starc to ask, “Is that superstition?” to which Jaiswal boldly replied, “I just believe in myself. I’m enjoying this moment of my life.

Jaiswal and Starc have been involved in verbal battles earlier in the series, with the Indian opener telling Starc, “It’s coming too slow,” in Perth. Starc responded by dismissing Jaiswal on the first ball in Adelaide and getting him out again in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing, the game has come alive. Australia have successfully broken the 88-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Jaiswal. India are 127/5 and still need to survive over 25 overs to save the test. Australia also have the second new ball waiting later on.
