Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson in the first over.

Sanju Samson, who was recently selected in the Indian squad for the first time for an ICC event, didn’t have a good outing post that news, as he was clean bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on May 2, 2024.

Pat Cummins, the SRH captain, won the toss and chose to bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad. The Sunrisers’ top order failed to come good this game, especially at home. Abhishek Sharma got out for 12 runs and Anmolpreet Singh made 5 in 5 balls, as SRH reeled on 35/2.

Then Travis Head (58) and Nitish Kumar Reddy added 96 runs for the third wicket with the Australian opener falling to Avesh Khan. However, then Nitish Reddy continued and stepped on the pedal in the last few overs.

He got the much-needed boost from partner Heinrich Klaasen at the other end. Reddy smashed 76* in 42 balls with 3 fours and 8 sixes as well. Klaasen contributed 42* in 19 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. SRH added 126 runs in the last 10 overs and over 70 in the last five overs to take the final score to 201/3 in 20 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar hits RR hard, removes Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson in the first over itself

Runaway leaders RR have been very good chasers in ongoing IPL 2024. They had even chased down a 224-run target against Kolkata Knight Riders and much of that was done by Jos Buttler, who had scored a six.

However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was on something else, as he had Buttler caught in slips by Marco Jansen on the first ball he faced itself. Then came in Sanju Samson, the RR captain, who has been in good form.

He had scored a well-compiled 71* in a tough chase against Lucknow Super Giants in RR’s previous match. But Bhuvneshwar Kumar had him on a string. He bowled a couple of outswingers to Samson to set him and then bowled a vicious inswinger that beat Samson on the inside egde and clattered into his stumps.

Samson, who was named in India’s T20 World Cup squad yesterday, had to walk back for a duck.
