Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has blamed his luck for not being able to make a comeback to the Indian Cricket Team. The right-arm pacer is currently busy in UP T20 League 2025, where he is the captain of Lucknow Falcons.

A few years ago, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was a key player for India in white-ball formats. However, after India’s humiliating defeat against England in the semi-finals of ICC T20 World Cup 2022, he lost his place in the national team.

His last game for India was a T20I clash against New Zealand in November 2022. The 35-year-old has been a consistent performer in the Indian Premier League (IPL), however, he has failed to make comeback to the national team.

During a conversation with Dainik Jagran on the sidelines of the UP T20 League 2025, Bhuvneshwar was asked about his India comeback. The veteran pacer said that only selectors know the answer. He also blamed his luck for not being able to make a national comeback despite a good performance.

“Aapko iska uttar chayanakarta denge (Only the selectors can answer that). My job is to give 100 percent on the field, and I’m doing that. If I get a chance to play for Uttar Pradesh in the Mushtaq Ali, Ranji, or One-Day formats after the UP league, I will give my best there too,” he said.

As a disciplined bowler, my focus remains on fitness and line-length. No matter how well you perform, sometimes luck doesn’t favour you,” he added.

“Your performance is paramount. If someone plays good cricket consistently, they cannot be ignored for long. Even if you’re not selected, focus on giving your 100 percent. The rest is up to the selectors,” he further said.

Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar was part of eventual champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025. At an economy of 9.28, the right-arm seamer clinched 17 wickets in 14 games in the tournament. RCB bought him for Rs. 10.75 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
