5. India – 320 runs vs Australia, Mohali, 2008:
The fifth-highest win margin by runs for India came during the 2008 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. It was the second test of the series in Mohali. Batting first, India finished at 469, with Sourav Ganguly scoring 102. Australia got all out for 268 runs in the first innings. With a first-innings lead of 201 runs, India declared their second innings at 314/3, with Gautam Gambhir scoring 104. Australia had a target of 516 but they managed to score only 195 to lose it by a massive 320 runs.
4. India – 321 runs vs New Zealand, Indore, 2016:
New Zealand don’t have a great record against India in tests in India as they have managed to win only two games in the country so far. They conceded the fourth-biggest win for India. It came in October 2016 in Indore during the third and final game of the series.
In the first innings of the match, Virat Kohli (211) and Ajinkya Rahane (188) helped India to post a massive target of 557/5d. New Zealand were bundled out for 299 in the first innings and conceded a big lead of 256 runs. India declared their second innings at 216/3 to set a massive target of 475 runs. The visitors lost all wickets at 153 and India won the game by 321 runs. Ravi Ashwin took a total of 13 wickets in the game.
3. India – 337 runs vs South Africa, Delhi, 2015:
There are not many occasions when an Indian batsman scores twin centuries in a test match. One such incident happened in December 2015 in Delhi against South Africa, which resulted in the third-biggest win for India in test cricket. Ajinkya Rahane slammed 127 and an unbeaten 100 in two innings. India made 334 and 267/5d in two innings while South Africa managed totals of only 121 and 143. As a result, India won the match by 337 runs. Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took 7 wickets each in the game.
2. India – 372 runs vs New Zealand, Mumbai, 2021:
The second-biggest win in tests by margin of runs for India came against New Zealand in December 2021 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was the second game of the series and India managed a decent total of 325 runs in the first innings where Mayank Agarwal (150) scored a brilliant ton. New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel dismissed all 10 Indian batters in the game and became third bowler to pick a 10-wicket haul in an innings in test cricket.
However, New Zealand saw a horrible collapse in the first innings and they were bundled out for just 62 runs. India batted again and declared at 276/7. Chasing 540 runs, New Zealand got all out for 167 runs and lost the game by 372 runs.
1. India – 434 runs vs England, Rajkot, 2024:
Losing three wickets for just 33 runs in the first session on Day 1 and going on to register a win by 434 runs is pretty special. This happened in the third test between India and England in Rajkot in 2024. With centuries from Ravindra Jadeja (112) and Rohit Sharma (131), India managed to score 445 in the first innings.
England replied with 315 in the first innings and conceded the hosts a lead of 130 runs. India batted brilliantly in the second innings again and declared at 430/4, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring an unbeaten 214. Chasing 557 runs to win, England lost all wickets for 122 runs and lost the match by 434 runs.
