The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 will get underway on Friday at the Optus Stadium.

The Western Australian Cricket head curator Isaac McDonald has promised a pitch with “good pace, really good bounce and really good carry” for the upcoming first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, which will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

For the first time since the 1991/92 test series, India and Australia will clash in a five-match test series. And it will begin with the toughest venue for a visiting team: Perth.

While since 2018, Australia’s test matches in Perth have been played in the new Optus Stadium, it has retained the deadly pace-friendly conditions that made the WACA ground world-famous.

India played here on their 2018/19 trip but Perth didn’t host a test during India’s visit in 2020/21, which was surprising given the result in the 2018 Australia vs India test.

What happened last time India played in Perth?

India and Australia met in Perth in the 2018/19 series. It was the second test of the series. Australia won it by 146 runs, overcoming a sizzling century from Virat Kohli.

In reply to Australia’s first innings total of 326, Kohli produced one of the best test centuries of his career as he scored 123 runs off 257 balls while India were bowled out for 283 as Nathan Lyon took a five-wicket haul.

Usman Khawaja’s 72 helped Australia to 243, setting a target of 287 for India. This target proved too much for India on a pitch whose cracks had opened up and against a searing Australian bowling attack.

India were bundled for only 140 runs and lost by 146 runs. Lyon was named the Man of the Match for his figures of 5/67 & 3/39.
